picnicText Box: HELPING HANDS

World Relief:  Volunteer programs for World Relief vary throughout the year.  School time activities involve after school programs for children in kindergarten through high school.  For the After School Club, homework help, fun games, snacks and transportation are provided. Ladies Day Out is a social and learning experience for refugee women.  Summertime activities begin with an all ages picnic for the refugee families and volunteers.  The Summer Club is for children in the first grade through high school.  Current activities includes trips to museums, parks, and zoos.

Food Pantry: Donations of food are given on a monthly basis.

Neighborhood School:  Parishioners assist students, especially at-risk children, at our neighborhood school.  Besides tutoring, we donate school supplies, socks, mittens, hats, and scarves, and give a book to each child in our adopted class at Christmastime.

Sandwich Board:  We prepare and serve food to the needy at Trinity Episcopal Church in Aurora.

Adopt-A-Family, Refugee Ministry:  This is a lay led group that is focused on outreach to local refugees in Aurora.  St. David’s has recently adopted a family from Burundi and needs help with basic needs, English practice, and fellowship.

PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter):  We provide volunteers to help staff a registration desk and store for personal toiletries, open lockers, oversee sleeping arrangements, answer phones, and wash dishes at Hesed House (the overnight shelter in Aurora).
